Dog Friendly Cafes in Bali: Where Your Visit Actually Helps

The Dog House Team8 April 2026

Bali has no shortage of cafes that allow dogs. A lot of places in Canggu will let you bring your pup, set out a water bowl, and leave it at that. And that is fine. But there is a difference between a cafe that tolerates dogs and a cafe that exists because of them.

The Dog House was built around dogs. Not as a theme or a gimmick, but as a mission. Every meal served here directly funds the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of Bali's street dogs. That is not a side project. It is the reason we exist.

The Street Dog Reality in Bali

Bali has an estimated 500,000 to 600,000 street dogs. They are everywhere: on the beach, in the rice fields, outside temples, wandering through traffic. Some are healthy and looked after by local communities. Many are not.

Street dogs in Bali face mange, malnutrition, infection, poisoning, traffic injuries, and abuse. Puppies are especially vulnerable. The scale of the problem is enormous, and the resources available to address it are limited. A handful of rescue organisations do incredible work, but the need far outstrips what they can handle.

Most visitors to Bali see these dogs and feel something. They want to help but do not know how. Donating to a charity they have never heard of feels uncertain. Volunteering requires time most travellers do not have. The gap between wanting to do good and actually doing it is wide.

We built The Dog House to close that gap.

How the Paw Tax Works

Every transaction at The Dog House includes a Paw Tax: a fixed contribution that goes directly to dog rescue. It appears on every receipt: "Your Paw Tax: Rp 5,000. Bali street dog rescue fund."

You do not need to donate. You do not need to sign up for anything. You eat breakfast, drink coffee, and a portion of that goes to rescuing a street dog. The contribution happens automatically, every time, for every customer.

This is deliberate. We did not want rescue funding to depend on people feeling generous in the moment or remembering to tap a donation button. We made it part of the price of doing business. The cafe runs, dogs get helped. The busier we are, the more dogs we can support.

How We Direct the Fund

The Paw Tax goes into our rescue fund, and we decide where it does the most good. We are not locked to a single organisation. We evaluate continuously and distribute to whoever is moving the needle the most: feeding programmes run by local teams, emergency vet bills for solo fosters, vaccination drives, and rehoming support across Bali.

Organisations like Mission Paws'ible are part of the network we work with and support. The model is deliberate. We want the money to chase the impact, not the other way around.

We also run adoption events at the cafe where people can meet rescue dogs looking for homes. Paws and Purpose, our monthly 5K, brings runners together with foster dogs and finishes at The Dog House for breakfast. These are the moments where all the pieces come together: the food, the community, and the rescue mission in one place.

What Dog Friendly Means Here

At The Dog House, dogs do not just sit under your table. They are part of the atmosphere. Regulars bring their dogs every morning. Foster dogs from the rescue network visit for socialisation. Adoption candidates meet potential families over coffee.

We keep water bowls filled, treats available, and the space comfortable for dogs of all sizes. Our staff know the regulars by name, and often know the dog's name before the owner's.

But being dog friendly goes beyond the physical space. It means that when a street dog turns up outside the cafe injured or sick, we know who to call and how to help. It means our community is connected to the rescue network. It means the person drinking a flat white at table six might be fostering the dog sitting next to them, and that dog might find its forever home because someone at the next table asked about it.

That kind of environment does not happen by accident. It happens because the entire business is oriented around it.

Beyond Our Doors

We are not the only people doing good work for Bali's dogs. Organisations like Mission Paws'ible, Bali Paws, BAWA, and Villa Kitty (for cats) all contribute to animal welfare on the island. If you are looking to get involved beyond eating brunch, these organisations welcome volunteers, fosters, and donations.

What we offer is something specific: a way to contribute just by showing up. No application forms, no time commitment, no awkward conversations. Sit down, eat well, and know that part of your bill is already working to help a dog that needs it.

Come Meet the Dogs

We are at Jl. Tanah Barak No.17A in Canggu. Open every day, 8am to 6pm. Bring your dog or come meet ours. Check our Instagram for upcoming adoption days and Paws and Purpose events.
